International Gas Turbine Congress 2003 Tokyo
On behalf of the Gas Turbine Society of Japan (GTSJ), I am very pleased to announce that the International Gas Turbine Congress 2003 Tokyo (IGTC '03 Tokyo) will be held from 2nd to 7th of November, 2003, with the support of collaborating societies in the world. This is the eighth international congress organized by GTSJ and the last congress took place in 1999 in Kobe, which proved to be a great success.
The technologies for gas turbines and turbochargers have been greatly developed with the improvements in the efficiency, reliability and cleanness of exhaust emissions in the last decade through the developments in heat-resistant materials, manufacturing technologies, cooling technologies of turbine blades and also the dry low NOx combustion technologies. Highly efficient and low NOx power plants have been put in practical use in Japan and recently the research and development activities of micro gas turbine systems for the next generation are underway in several companies. Moreover, aiming at practical use in 21st century, a national project of development of propulsion systems for ultra supersonic transports are also in progress in Japan by a group of domestic industries with the cooperation of foreign industries.
Under these circumstances, this international congress will be a timely and beneficial event, allowing participating researchers and engineers from all areas of the world to exchange information on the latest research and technical results in gas turbines and turbochargers. Many excellent papers are expected to be submitted, and many participants will be welcomed.

President (2002.3-2003.2), Gas Turbine Society of Japan
The International Gas Turbine Congress (IGTC) was first held in 1971 in Tokyo. Since then, six congresses in the series have been held in Tokyo(1977,1983,1987), Yokohama(1991,1995) and Kobe(1999). A great number of investigators and engineers joined from various areas of the world and presented their results of research or experiences. Information exchange was also actively carried out at the meeting and lobbies. Last IGTC was successfully held in 1999 in Kobe with about 600 participants and 150 presentations.
